System maintenance
Every system has to be maintained from time to time to ensure its functionality and data integrity. There are three ways to do this in TYPOlight. As you have learned in chapter Installation you can check and optionally update database tables and fields with the install tool. The other tools are located in the back end under system maintenance.
Clear cache
TYPOlight has an efficient cache system which caches various data (like pages, search requests or RSS feeds) to allow faster page loading. If there are changes in the back end, the front end will sometimes still display the previous cached version. In this case, the cache should be cleared using this module.
Live update
One of the most prominent features that make TYPOlight stand out from the variety of content management systems is its live update engine. Logging in to the back end of TYPOlight automatically checks the current version and points out if a new version is available. With a single click on the Check for updates button TYPOlight displays a list of outdated files, allowing you to define which files will be updated. Thus, you can prevent customized files from being overwritten.
After another click on the Update files button, all selected local files will be replaced with their latest version. Please note that TYPOlight requires writing permissions in order to update files! If you are running PHP5 as module you might need to change the file mode (CHMOD) of your files and folders. The update process is logged in file system/logs/update.log.
Edit your personal data
Each back end user can change his personal data like name, e-mail, back end language or password using the personal data module. This module is linked from the back end navigation menu as well as the top bar.
TYPOlight does not only store a user's personal data but also his session. A session contains information like open tree nodes, used sorting criteria or visited pages. Next time the user logs in, the back end will be exactly as he left it.
Sometimes a session is not stored properly or contains an error that has an impact on back end navigation. In such a case a user can clear his session data, which resets the back end to its default state.
