I cannot login to the back end and I do not get an error message either.

If you are using a proxy server or a similar tool to access the internet, your IP address might change during your session. In this case, you cannot log in to the back end, because TYPOlight validates the IP address on every request and automatically redirects to the login screen if the IP address changes. You can trace those kind of errors in the system log.
